At Lupa Foods, we are proud of our partnership with FareShare, a UK-based charity dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste. Our joint efforts from January to May 2023 have made a significant impact, and we are excited to share some of the highlights. In total since we’ve partnered with FareShare we’ve redistributed 104,764 equivalent meals!
Our Impact in 2023
In just five months, our partnership has achieved incredible results. We have redistributed 6.35 tonnes of food, which has helped 194 charities and provided the equivalent of 15,119 meals. This effort has also prevented 10.2 tonnes of CO2e from being wasted, demonstrating our commitment to environmental sustainability.
Looking Ahead
We are not stopping here. Our next milestone is to redistribute enough food for 250,000 equivalent meals. This will involve redistributing an additional 146,000 equivalent meals and 61 tonnes of food. We are confident that with our continued partnership with FareShare, we will reach this goal.
The Cost of Living Crisis
Our partnership with FareShare is more critical now than ever. The ongoing Cost of Living Crisis has led to a sharp rise in food costs, with the overall cost of food rising by 18.2% in the 12 months to February 2023. This is the highest annual rise in 45 years. Over a third of people facing food insecurity are in employment, many in key sectors such as the food industry, education, and healthcare. The situation is worse for households with children, with one in four experiencing food insecurity.
